How Much House Do You Need?

When we decided to build our home in Bequia, we were still living in the US. We did what many people do, browse Pinterest, Houzz, Architectural Digest and many others to get ideas, look at prefab homes etc. We settled on a 2 story, 4 bedroom with an office. The pictures were inspiring and we could see ourselves living perfectly within that space.

Fast forward to living in Bequia, in a lovely rental retreat where, very quickly, the plan changed. We realized that our vision had been framed by our lifestyle in the US and came to understand that it did not bear any resemblance to our lifestyle in Bequia. There we spent the winters indoors with heating and then the summers indoors with air-conditioning. A room for this and a room for that. But here, we spent our time in two rooms, our bedroom and the kitchen. Apart from that, you could find us on the terrace enjoying the breezes and listening to the sound of the ocean. More and more, it became clear that our plan was all wrong. Too much house, too many rooms, too much AC, too much to clean and too much to furnish.

Today, we're understanding that what we really need is a two bedroom with an indoor / outdoor area to gather with friends and a small plunge pool that would be easy to manage. No waisted space, no waisted money. Oh and AC in the bathroom. I must have it.

Now, back to Pinterest and AD, maybe Chat GPT too.
